"LCA makes another appearance in the third round of the playoffs this week. The Eagles have been sent home from this round four different times in four years. However, this year the team will face a new opponent in Somerset. Earlier in the season, LCA lost to Somerset by 35. In that game, Somerset scored two touchdowns in garbage time.
LCA is coming into this round of the playoffs with a four-game win streak, following impressive wins on the road over Danville (at Admiral Stadium) and Shelby Valley (10-2). LCA only gave up 110 yards of offense last week in their stellar performance. LCA is now 9-3, looking to have its third consecutive 10-win season.
In LCA’s first meeting with Somerset, it looked promising as the Eagles shut out the Briar Jumpers in the first half, with a chance to score on a blocked field goal. However LCA could not capitalize and would not score at all in the first meeting. The Jumpers did not score until the end of the third quarter, and then they quickly put up three unanswered touchdowns before LCA pulled its starters. Somerset would proceeded to run up the score to 35 until the game was over.
LCA is looking for revenge and to stop the Jumpers’ run game. Also, LCA will be looking for their playmakers (Xavier Brown, 9, Dee Smith, 11, and Will Vernon, 10) to maintain their high play. Quarterback Jayden Barnhardt, 11, also will need to make plays both on the ground and in the air."
The Eagles ended up losing a heartbreaker to the Briar Jumpers of Somerset on Friday night, but we are proud of the young men and what they have accomplished on and off the field this season. We are also extremely of Dustin for all that he is doing at the Talon, and we wish him the best!
