From Assistant Track Coach Ray Hayes:
"On Saturday February 16th, LCA Track was represented in the prestigious UK High School Invitational held at UK’s Nutter Field House. This year’s UK High School Invitational brought to Lexington elite athletes from 15 states and the District of Columbia. Several National best indoor times were turned in at the meet which was selected as the most competitive in the nation for the weekend.
Lexington Christian had two athletes, Senior Andrew Madden and Sophomore Connor Hayes accepted to compete and at the end of the day, both represented the school admirably.
Andrew set the tone with his 800 meter run performance. Seeded 17th in the 45-athlete field, he covered the distance in a new personal best and LCA indoor school record 14th place time of 1:58.76, bettering the 2:00.26 time ran in 2009 by Nate Spain. Andrew’s 800 time, currently ranks in #1 in Kentucky Class A for the 2019 indoor season.
Connor was accepted to compete in both the 1-Mile and 2-Mile but was withdrawn from the 1-Mile to focus on his 2-Mile effort. That coaching decision paid off as Connor, coming from the 27th (out of 30) seed, ran a 21-second indoor personal best time to finish in 8th place. His new LCA indoor school record time of 9:45.87 topped the 2010 time of 9:47.85 time ran Will Mullett. His time currently ranks him #1 in Kentucky Class A and is the #6 Sophomore 2-Mile time run in the United States this season.
Both Andrew and Connor achieved the National Elite Silver US Second Team Standard with their efforts.
Next up for the LCA boys’ and girls’ track teams is a trip to Huntington, West Virginia and the Marshall University High School Invitational on Saturday February 23rd. This meet will conclude their indoor season."
Good luck tommorw to our Track Teams!
