On Saturday September 29th, the LCA Girls and Boys Cross Country teams traveled to Wilmore to compete in the West Jessamine Chick-fil-A Invitational/Area 6 Championships at West Jessamine Middle school and left with a dominating performance taking both team and individual titles.
The Girls were led by Freshman Anna Rupp, whose 19:14 winning time placed her #2 on the all-time LCA 5000-meter cross country list and is the current #1 time for Kentucky Class 1A girls entering the last month of the 2018 season. In addition to Anna’s performance, season best times by Seniors Madeline Pulliam (11th) and Kendall Hayes (17th) along with 7thgrade sisters Abby (18) and Hadley (21st) Bronksi propelled the girls to a 2-point (64-66) team win over 2nd place Louisville Butler.
Competing at full strength since the first meet of the season back in August, the LCA Boys left no doubt on their boys title. Led by the 1-2 duo of Senior Andrew Madden and Sophomore Connor Hayes, and strong runs by Freshman Lukas Ferguson (4th), Seniors Elijah Brand (17th) and Caleb Harper (18th) the boys cruised to a 26-point margin of victory (40-66) over meet runner-up Louisville Butler.
In addition to the successful Chick-fil-A Invitational results, KTCCCA Area 6 (Central Kentucky) awards were handed out with Anna Rupp named as Area 6 Girls Champion with Andrew Madden, Connor Hayes and Lukas Ferguson leading a LCA 1-2-3 sweep on the boys side.
Next up for both teams is a trip to Woodford County’s tough Falling Springs Park course to compete in the Woodford County Invitational on Saturday October 6th.
