The LCA baseball team, under second-year head coach Wynn Harris, had some questions coming into 2019. The departure of seniors always offers young players the opportunity to get a chance to contribute. This season, those young players have gelled with the veterans to get the Eagles off to a 12-4 start, including a victory over #2-ranked Tates Creek 9-0 last week.
The Eagles' season got off to a good start as they won the first three games of the year. But then they hit the road and dropped two tough games against CAL and North Oldham in Louisville. But they bounced back by winning the All A 11th Region, defeating Model and Sayre, before heading to Florida for Spring Break. In Fort Walton, LCA won all four games it played.
Upon their return it was time to dive into district and up first was the #2-ranked Commodores of Tates Creek. In game one, it took Creek 9 innings to knock off the Eagles 7-6 at Tates Creek. The next night, thoguh, the Eagles got revenge with a terrific 9-0 win at home behind the pitching of Evan Byers, Griffin Sahli and Jake Standiford.
Next up was #7-ranked Scott County at the Harrison County Invitational. It wasnt the Eagles' night and Scott County brought their hitting shoes, taking this one 14-2. But LCA bounced back the very next day to defeat Sayre 5-4 and host Harrison County 14-3 to improve their record to 12-4.
Up next is Lafayette, also ranked among the state's best. Make sure to come out and catch the Eagles this spring. You can find the schedule for every spring team by clicking on the calendar link at the top of the page.
