Boys Soccer Defeats Sayre 3-0 to Win All A Regional

The LCA boys soccer team was still upset over their loss in the 2017 All A Regional loss to Frankfort. It was certainly on their minds the entire offseason that winning the Regional was a main goal this year. New coach Steve Fugmann knew it, too. "Even though I was coaching the girls last season, i knew all the boys and heard them talking about it last year," stated Fugmann. "I'm really glad we were able to check that one off the list."

The Eagles seemed in control for the entire game, after goals by senior Phillip Scott and sophomore Taco Nsimpasi put them up 2-0 in the first half. But the game seemed very much up for grabs when shortly before halftime, LCA goalkeeper Erik Burroughs was called for a yellow card in the box off a corner kick. Not only did it mean the Spartans had a penalty kick, but Burroughs had to come out for the play due to the yellow card.

In stepped backup goalie Kyle Jasper. In one of the toughest plays to defend in soccer, Jasper came in cold off the bench into the goal. Jasper made a terrific read to his left and stopped the kick to preserve the shutout for the Eagles. It fired up the entire team and the LCA fans.

Ethan Hamilton scored another goal (video below compliments of Mike Hamilton) to make it 3-0 and the Eagles never looked back. They will take on Danville in the sectional in a couple weeks for the right to go to the All A State Tournament later this month.
